How can I give?
You can give using our Paypal donate button on the right or ask us for Gawad Pag-asa’s Bank account here.
You can give a one-time donation or set-up a monthly donation. You can specify how much you want to give to a scholar.
How did you choose the scholars?
We chose the scholars based on these qualifications:
1) Helplessness 35% a) family income (20%), b) able-bodied family members/relatives (7.5%) and family assets (7.5%);
2) Potential 25% a) IQ (10%), b) EQ (10%) and c) SQ (5%);
3) Desire and Commitment 35% a) desire and commitment to study (15%), b) dream/ambition for self (10%), c) desire to help others (10%).
Can I choose the scholar that I want to support?
Yes you can choose the name of the kid that you want to sponsor if you have any preference.
How long do I need to support a scholar?
You can choose to commit to support a scholar for one school year (which is 10 months because two months are vacation time). before the school year ends, we will ask you if you want to continue to sponsor your scholar for another year. We would like to encourage you to continue supporting the scholar until he/she graduates in primary school though.
Will you provide regular updates of the scholar’s progress?
Yes we will. Gawad Pag-asa will meet with the parents/guardians and the scholar to track his/her progress. We will ask them where the scholar is good at and what area/subject does he/she need help to perform better for the next month.
What happens before and after the scholar graduates from elementary school?
Gawad Pag-asa will help the scholars decide on what path he/she wants to pursue after graduation: acquire technical skills, go to a university or start his/her own business. Whatever he/she chooses, we will help him/her with all the steps: how to apply, get scholarships or mentors. We will help transition him/her to move ahead and pursue his/her dreams or ambition. We will support the scholar all throughout until he/she is successful in his/her chosen path.
Besides the scholarship, what will Gawad Pag-asa provide for the scholars?
We plan to have a yearly summer activity for the scholars. We will conduct summer outing with workshops or seminars to refresh them and get them ready for the next school year.
For the parents/guardians, they will be part of the Parenting Seminar which we will conduct every year. Since we will meet them once a month to get the scholar’s update, we will also do some parenting talks on how they can best support their child as well as financial literacy talks on those times.
We also want to set-up a livelihood program for the parents/guardians later on to help with the financial situation of the family.
Why did you choose Mind Builders Academy (MBA) as the school to send your scholars to go to?
Gawad Pag-asa is currently working in partnership with MBA to achieve our shared vision of providing high quality education affordable to middle-income families. We would like to offer free education though to helpless and hopeless kids through this scholarship program.
MBA is a private school right? Why did you not choose a public school instead?
MBA is a private non-profit school. We chose it to make sure that the teachers can accommodate and look after the needs of our scholars. Remember that our scholars need special sessions to catch up with the class. MBA teachers can spend additional time with the scholars if they need help with their lessons. This is possible because of the low teacher-to-student ratio.
If we will send our scholars to a public school, the teachers would not be able to look out personally for our scholars because of the high teacher-to-student ratio.
